Bishop Oyedepo Says Ladies Attitude Today Is Why Marriages Are Failing

I often tell ladies close to me that marriage is like culture, if you try to cover it too much with modernity it is going to explode. Any lady who want to deceive herself by thinking that she and her husband are equal will become a divorced wife or first wife faster than she could have ever imagined. Men marry more than one wife and it didn't stop God from working with them. Ladies, it is in your place to be submissive to your husband as directed by the Bible, do otherwise and you will blame yourself. Founder of the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) Bishop David Oyedepo, has attributed the high rate of divorce cases in the world today to the erroneous clamour for women liberation... Oyedepo who presided over the Third Service of his church in Ota, Ogun State on Sunday, noted that the increasing talk about equality between men and women have sadly spilled into their marital lives. Adding that, such women now equate themselves with their husbands against the biblical doctrine that advises women to be submissive to their husbands and that men should love their wives. He said cases of divorce were many these days because some ladies have thrown the dictates of God away and have instead started imbibing self-made laws that confer on them near-absolute freedom. This, he said, was partly the reason behind the laws approving homosexuality in foreign countries. Speaking comically but with seriousness, he warned that if this talk of blind equality and homosexuality is not checked, “Very soon, you would see a male President and the First Lady would be a man.” Nowadays, "they take churches to court for refusing to marry men. That is how the world has turned." He told the congregation that women must be submissive to their husbands and that if they follow such with prayers, even if some husbands are wayward, God would return them to the family. He also advised married men to avoid being blown away by the things of the world as they must learn to love their wives as the Bible had instructed. "When you work in the light of scriptures, you create an enviable future," the Bishop stressed.

Army Reinstates 2,500 soldiers & 102 officers Sacked Because of Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army has recalled over 2,500 soldiers who were asked to withdraw from service for alleged offences committed under the counter-insurgency operations code named Operation Zaman Lafiya. The panel set up by the Army, which began sitting in Kaduna on August 17, has also screened and reinstated 102 officers, who were sentenced or facing prosecution in relation to the operations in the North-East. Already, the reinstated soldiers and senior officers, it was learnt, had commenced retraining at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kontangora, Niger State. The 2,500 soldiers were among the over 4,000 who responded to a memo from the Army authorities inviting soldiers for a review of recent disciplinary cases, which emanated from the counter terrorism operations. The NA had said on August 1, 2015 that the service would constitute a panel to review all recent disciplinary cases in the service. But the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, cautioned that the directive to review disciplinary cases should not be mistaken for a “total reinstatement of dismissed and deserter soldiers.” Punch learnt that more dismissed personnel of the Army might be brought back to the service as the screening panel would continue with the review of cases on Monday (today). A source in the Nigerian Army, who confided in Punch, said, “The panel has cleared 2,500 soldiers who were dismissed from their units for minor offences alleged to have been committed under Operation Zaman Lafiya. “The review panel also cleared 102 officers who were either asked to withdraw, dismissed or facing prosecution for various offences under the operation.” Sani Usman said, "This is an ongoing exercise; they want to ensure that justice is done. I cannot give you any figure, the authorities are waiting for the committee’s report; they will conclude sitting very soon."

President Buhari queries Okonjo-Iweala over Missing Money

President Muhammed Buhari has ordered the Ministry of Finance to immediately provide explanations on the whereabouts of the foreign loans obtained for rail projects but diverted to other purposes under the watch of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Okonjo Iweala. The president directive followed an instance of the diversion of a substantial part of the loan of $1.005bn from the Chinese Exim Bank, meant for the construction of a standard gauge rail line linking Lagos and Kano States to somewhere else. This was even as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Alhaji Mohammed Bashar opened up to President Buhari that only $400 million is left of the money. Bashar made the revelation during a presentation of his ministry’s activities to Buhari at the Villa. He also briefed the President on challenges facing the transport and maritime sectors such as encroachment on railway land, lack of security on inland waterways and some vague agreements between the Nigeria Ports Authority and ports concessionaires. Reacting, President Buhari said that it was disappointing to find that foreign loans obtained in line with signed agreements were moved from one project to another, in a bid to steal the money. “I hope that due process was followed before such diversions were carried out. Taking money from one project to another has to be done properly,” he warned.

Banks Reduce Withdrawal Limits on All ATMs in Nigeria

The battle for defence of the Naira has widened, affecting existing withdrawal limits on ATMs and foreign transactions on all existing Naira debit cards (ATM cards). In the new arrangement, all ATMs that were hitherto enabled for domestic and foreign transactions have been restructured to limit Naira cash withdrawal at ATMs to N60,000 per day while foreign currency is $300 per day. Hitherto, the domestic withdrawal limit was N150,000 per day. The new arrangement has separated traditional ATM from MasterCard credit card where the former has now been deactivated and can no longer be used for transactions abroad. Hitherto, a single ATM card serves for transactions for both domestic and abroad. Also, the restructured cards now have spending limits on POS/eCommerce (online shopping) pegged at $300 (about N60,000) per day. Before this, the limit was N2 million per day. In the new arrangement, a bank customer with multiple debit cards (ATM cards), only the one linked to the primary transactional account will be enabled for use abroad. Hitherto, such customers could transact with any of the cards that is funded. However, banks are putting in place alternatives in these adjustments to address the concern of customers who are now being directed by their banks to reapply for a new card arrangement to suit their purposes. For instance, Standard Chartered Bank has asked its customers to request a complementary ATM card for domestic use only so that the original N150,000 daily cash withdrawal limit can be restored and also reactivate POS/online purchase limit of N2 million per day. The bank also required customers to apply for a foreign currency denominated ATM linked to domiciliary account which would be enabled with no daily or annual international transaction limits.

WAEC Releases 2015 Results; SEE Where To Check Results

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has released the May/June 2015 WASSCE results, but made good its threat to withhold the results of students in 13 states that are owing the exam body. The Head of Nigerian Office, Mr Charles Eguridu who disclosed this at its Yaba Office said: "Out of 1,593,442 candidates who sat for the examinations, only 616,370 candidates, representing 38.68% obtained credits in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.” Results of 118,101 candidates, representing 7.41% are being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractice. Justifying the slight improvement in the results from previous years, Eguridu said that in 2013, a total candidates who obtained five credits in English and Mathematics were 639,760 representing 38.30 per cent. He said, in 2014, 529,425 that is 31.28 per cent obtained five credits in English and Mathemstics. Meanwhile, Eguridu said that 6 states among the 19 states that are owing the Council have paid their debt, left with 13 states. The HNO who refused to disclosed the names of indebted states explained that he would not want politicians to hijacked the situation against their opponents. He, however noted that if any of the states that are owing can get an advanced payment guarantee from any reputable banks, students results in such states will be released. His words: "I alerted the nation on the challenges which the Council was facing in Nigeria as a result of this indebtedness, and its adverse effects on our operations. I had stated then that the Council may be constrained from releasing the results of government-sponsored candidates of the affected states. “After my pronouncement, a few of the debtor states responded by paying their debts fully or partially; while a few others made promises, indicating their willingness to pay as soon as they are able to do so. Others have not made any efforts in addressing the matter. “After reviewing the situation, the Council has decided that the results of government-sponsored candidates of indebted states would be released if such states endeavour to produce bank guarantees, so that the Council will be assured that the fees will be paid. This decision is in appreciation of the general prevailing economic challenges in the country, and in order not to jeopardize the educational careers of the candidates of the indebted states.” According to him, the cases of such students are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the Nigerian Examinations Committee (NEC) of the Council in due course for consideration. “Candidates who sat the May/June 2015 WASSCE will be able to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org within the next 24 hours.”

Buhari Begins Total Probe of Jonathan and His People

A total probe of the administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is underway as the National Economic Council, NEC, Ad-hoc Committee on the Management of Excess Crude Account Proceeds and Accruals into the Federation Account, headed by the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, is bringing in two international forensic audit firms to probe revenue that accrued into the Federation Account and how it was spent under Jonathan as President. “We have learned, we have listened and asked questions. I think we all have a clear picture of what is happening in those organizations before now. Some have information to supply and we have drawn attention to those areas, they are willing to oblige. We believe in the end, we will be able to not just establish what had happened over the period but much more important, going forward with the changes the President has promised the country." Oshiomhole told journalists at the end of the first meeting of the committee in Abuja, the audit would cover the period January 1, 2010 to June 1, 2015. It put paid to calls by the opposition PDP that Buhari should extend his probe to the administrations of all the predecessors of Jonathan, Alh. Umaru Yar’ Adua and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Already, some revenue generating agencies have been invited to brief the committee which will take detailed briefings from Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Federal Government who deal with revenue. The focus will be on the NNPC, the Nigeria Customs Service, the CBN, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI, among others. Other members of the committee included Gov. Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe, and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom. Speaking further, Oshiomhole said, “We held our first primary session today here with some of the revenue generating agencies that are supposed to remit funds to the federation account. We had a successful session with Customs, NPA, NEITI, SEC, FIRS, and quite a number of others and next week we will also hear from CBN, Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. "For the remaining ones, we agree we are going to meet on Thursday next week... We have started the work, with the idea to hear them out, what they have been doing, with particular emphasis on revenue accruing from these organizations and whether or not these have been remitted to the Federation Account for judicious distribution. “We realised that this is a task and given our mandate, even if we were professional accountants because we are sitting governors, we would not have the time to do a forensic audit which this assignment entails. “Therefore, we have agreed in line with our mandate to appoint two reputable international audit firms to carry out a thorough forensic audit, not only of NNPC, which is more of excess crude, but other monies that accrued to the Federation Accounts. We have other revenues like bonuses, royalties, taxes, VAT that flow into the Federation Account. “We are taking a holistic review of the entire process, looking at all the agencies that make contribution of funds to the federation account... “It is not going to be business as usual. He started on a clean slate and everybody knows the new rules of the game and in particular as the laws apply to the various institutions are implemented in full. So I think we started very well. We are very confident that we are going to come out with something that is going to be of immense benefits to the Nigerian people”.

Ex-FRSC Boss buys New N13m Jeep as Scrap, pays only 150k

A former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Haladu Hananiya, is in trouble for allegedly paying just N150,000 for a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser jeep worth N13m. Hananiya is alleged to have used his position as former Chairman, Governing Council of the Adamawa State University, ADSU, to convert the vehicle to his personal property. The university bought the brand new vehicle on January 28, 2015, several months after the former FRSC boss ceased to be chairman of the institution’s board. Seven days later, the car was passed to Hananiya who bought it as scrap, paying a token N150,000. A whistle blower, one Luka Ibrahim Monduva, first made the alleged scam public in a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Mr. Hananiya was appointed chairman of ADSU governing council on August 16, 2014. About two months into his four-year tenure; the state government sacked the board on October 8, 2014. However, three months after the board was sacked, the university, on January 28, purchased a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser V6 Jeep for Mr. Hananiya. He bought off the SUV as scrap seven days later. According to PT,investigation showed that the vehicle was purchased from AS Galadima Motors, located at Dawaki Junction, opposite Charley Boy Bus Stop, Kubwa Express Way, Abuja. In his petition to the EFCC, Mr. Monduva alleged that prior to Mr. Hananiya’s appointment; the university’s management passed a resolution that empowers principal officers to retain official vehicles after paying the scrap value of N150, 000. “Principal officers are entitled to retain their official vehicles once during their tenures after paying the scrap value of N150, 000; and if for any reason an officer leaves office after spending two years or half of the tenure, he shall pay the scrap value of N150, 000,” part of the resolution reads. But Mr. Hananiya only spent two months in office, and Mr. Monduva described his purchase of the new car on scrap value as “fraudulent and questionable”. EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that they have commenced investigation in the matter.

Finally, CBN bans All Foreign Currency Deposits to Save Naira

In its frantic efforts to save the Naira from further humiliation by the Dollar and other currency, the Central Bank of Nigeria has banned the payment of cash into domiciliary accounts all over Nigeria. In a circular on Wednesday signed by the Director of Trade and Exchange, CBN, Olakanmi Gbadamosi, the apex bank said its action followed recent statements by individual banks suspending the payment of foreign currencies into domiciliary accounts. Gbadamosi wrote, “The Central Bank of Nigeria has considered the recent statements by Deposit Money Banks concerning the large volume of foreign currencies in their vaults and the decision to stop accepting foreign currency cash deposits into customers’ domiciliary accounts as a welcome development. “Therefore, in its continued efforts to stop illicit financial flows in the Nigerian banking system which aligns with the anti-money Laundering stance of the Federal Government, the CBN hereby prohibits from the date of this circular the acceptance of foreign currency cash deposits by DMBs. “For foreign currency cash lodgements made prior to the date of this circular, the account holder has the option to either withdraw his or her foreign currency cash or the Naira equivalent. For the avoidance of doubt, only wire transfers to and from Domiciliary Accounts are henceforth permissible. “The CBN advises individuals that wish to source foreign currency for eligible and legitimate purposes such as BTA, PTA medical, mortgage, school fees, goods etc. to do so through recognised channels with the use of Form ‘A’ for “invisible” and Form ‘M’ for ‘visible’ transactions. By this circular, those who deposited foreign currencies into their accounts before the directive will now have to withdraw the cash as they are not going to be allowed to transfer the funds.”

UNILAG Lecturer R*pes Female Student Seeking Admission

The police in Lagos State have arrested a part-time lecturer in UNILAG, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly r*ping an 18-year-old girl, identified simply as Caroline (real names withheld) in the Yaba area. The young girl, who is just 18-year-old, was reportedly r*ped inside one of the study rooms in the institution, while she was seeking admission into the University of Lagos, Akoka. But the story is not very straight. Looks like the girl agreed. The lecturer told the police in his statement that the s*xual act was by mutual consent, insisting that he did not r*pe her... According to Punch, Baruwa was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3. It was learnt that the lecturer and Caroline’s father belonged to the same landlords’ association in the Abesan, Ipaja area. The girl's father had allowed her daughter to follow the lecturer on July 23, to UNILAG for an admission process. It was learnt that Baruwa allegedly took the girl inside a study room, bolted the door, and r*ped her.
It was learnt that after the incident, Caroline, who told her parents about the incident, was taken to an NGO, Mirabel Centre, where she was tested. The medical result reportedly confirmed that the teenager was violated. Caroline was thereafter taken to the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, and the matter was reported at the police station. Baruwa was subsequently arrested. The Director of the Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said the OPD would write a letter to the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor on the incident, so as to ensure that such did not reoccur. She said, “We are going to defend the girl. The suspect is said to be in the Department of Accounting. He claimed the s*x was consensual, but that is not a defence.” Baruwa, who was in custody, would be charged to court on Thursday. He maintains the act is consensual. But Lagos State Police PRO, DSP Patricia Amadin, said “the suspect claims to be a part-time lecturer, but not an employee of the University of Lagos. He has confessed to the crime and the medical result proved same.”
